Bio/Info: Latin beats bounce off congas to rock and roll drums while electric guitars lay down raking Mariachi style rhythms and Trio style leads. Shakers and rattlesnake rattles can be heard through the crunch of distortion while Elio Ramirez grabs the microphone and sings out about illegal immigration, corrupt governments, heartache and deception. Some listeners speak out about the controversial lyrics, while others groove to the way TiZOC usually takes one of their four minute songs and stretches it into an eight or ten minute improvisational jam when on stage. After being raised in an area drenched with Mariachi, Trio, and Mexican Folk Music Omar Reyna turned to Santana, Led Zeppelin, and the Doors for a relief. It seemed natural though, for this guitarist/songwriterto play Mariachi rhythms and Trio style leads with distortion and delay on his electric guitar. Omar spent many years playing Mariachi, Jazz and Rock while honing his songwriting skills, developing what is being labeled as Rock en Espanol. As the author of each song, Omar writes about his own personal experiences. His song "Desconocidos" speaks of betrayal by an ex-lover while "Sangre En Mi Piel" is the tale of how he hiked through the desert through the United States with others from Latin America. After Omar was unable to recruit musicians interested in Rock en Espanol, he decided to record and produce the album while playing each instrument himself. His ability to record and produce albums led to producing other local artists. After word spread of Omar's recording studio, Recamara Sounds, several local musicians began booking time. One of those bands was the Same but Different and when drummer, Jake Camarillo, heard Omar's tunes he asked if he could lay down the drum tracks. Soon, Jake and Omar began working on the songs until they thought they were complete. Just when Omar thought his project was finished, he booked another band into his studio. Elio Ramirez, previously signed to the legendary Tejano label Freddy Records, convinced Omar to allow him to sing the songs. Elio grabbed the microphone and gave new life to Omar's songs. His vocal range can be a raspy Mariachi "ranchera" style to a soulful rhythm and blues sound giving Omar's song the powerful voice needed for the lyrical content. With Elio on the microphone, Omar has more time to concentrate on song writing and guitar playing. The walking bass lines can be heard mixed in with octaves, majors, sevenths, and the use of chords. The beats change from ska, to punk, to jazz, reggae, and dance adding a colorful mix to this Rock en Espanol. Adrian Reyna takes time off from playing the guitar in the Same but Different and adds some Latin "sabor" to TiZOC by his use of the congas, shakers, the tambourine and rattlesnake rattles. TiZOC is currently self-recording/producing their first album at Recamara Sounds Recording Studios in Kingsville, Texas. With the lack of Spanish Rock stations in the area, TiZOC has gone south of the border into Mexico for radio airplay. The EP, Dia De Los Muertos, is for sale www.recamara.net.
